A young man was killed in a knife attack during a nighttime robbery at a shop in Bakwa district of Farah province, while about 500,000 Afghanis were reportedly stolen, according to local sources cited by Nimruz.
The incident occurred Tuesday night in the Wadud market of Bakwa district, the sources said.
The victim, identified as Irfan, was reportedly inside the shop when the attackers entered. Originally from Helmand province, he worked as a shop clerk and also slept at the workplace at night.
According to the sources, the attackers stabbed Irfan to death before taking approximately 500,000 Afghanis from the shop.
There is no information yet about the number or identity of the attackers or whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The reported killing is more than a routine robbery. The fact that a worker who stayed overnight at his workplace was killed during the attack highlights the risks faced by people who spend the night at commercial premises, particularly in areas far from major urban centers.
From a Nimruz perspective, the incident also raises questions about security in local markets and the protection of workers and business owners after dark. For people who rely on their workplaces as both a source of income and, in some cases, a place to sleep, insecurity can have consequences extending well beyond the loss of property.
Nimruz cannot independently verify the details of the incident or the identities of those responsible. The Taliban have not so far commented publicly on the reported killing or robbery. If the incident is confirmed, identifying and prosecuting those responsible would be important both for justice for the victim and for restoring confidence in the security of local markets.
