The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has announced that its female staff in Afghanistan continue working to provide healthcare services and psychosocial support for mothers and families.
In a message posted on the social media platform X on Tuesday, September 8, UNFPA said that the health, wellbeing and future of every woman and girl benefiting from United Nations services remain among its top priorities.
UNFPA emphasized that its female employees in Afghanistan are continuing efforts to provide services for mothers and families, particularly in areas related to healthcare and social support.
This comes as access to healthcare services for women, especially pregnant women, remains a major challenge in many parts of Afghanistan.
The shortage of female doctors, particularly in remote areas, has been identified as one of the key obstacles to providing healthcare services for women in Afghanistan.
In recent years, widespread restrictions imposed on women and girls in Afghanistan have made access to education, employment and some essential services, including healthcare, increasingly difficult.
