Kabul Municipality has announced that the process of reclaiming 60 jeribs of land in the Regration area of Kabul’s fifth district has begun.
The municipality said that following a decision by the Technical Commission for the Prevention of Land Grabbing and Recovery of Seized Land, the process of clearing the area and removing illegal structures from the property has started.
According to Kabul Municipality, residents and individuals associated with the land had been informed over the past year about the decision to vacate the area. The three-month deadline set by the Council of Ulema had also expired, and six months had passed since its expiration.
Kabul Municipality added that the clearing operation is still underway and that, once completed, the land will be prepared for urban development and other city projects.
The municipality said it would take further measures to prevent the seizure of government land, recover illegally occupied properties, and create opportunities for the legal and planned use of urban land.
Kabul Municipality said the land had been occupied in previous years by a number of individuals using what it described as “various pretexts.”
