Informed sources say Abdul Latif Mansoor, the Taliban’s acting minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, has appointed at least 18 members of his immediate and extended family to positions across government ministries and public institutions.
According to the sources, those appointed include his son, brother, nephews, son-in-law, his daughter’s father-in-law and other close relatives. They are said to hold positions in institutions including the National Procurement Authority, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence, the Ministry of Defence, Kabul City Court, the Afghan Red Crescent Society and Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
The sources further claim that additional relatives of Mansoor also occupy government posts in various Taliban institutions.
The allegations come despite a previous directive issued by the Taliban office responsible for monitoring and implementing the decrees of Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, which prohibited appointments based on family ties or personal relationships.
According to the same sources, some Taliban officials have allegedly sought to circumvent the directive by transferring relatives between different government institutions, allowing them to remain in public positions.
The Taliban had not publicly responded to the report or the allegations at the time of publication.
