Local sources have told Nimruz TV that Mawlawi Bayazid Youn, the head of the Analysis and Review Section of the Complaints Department within the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat, was detained earlier this week.
According to the sources, Taliban personnel arrested Youn at a garden near Herat city together with four other individuals. The sources also claim that one woman was among those detained.
The sources allege that the arrests were made on suspicion of engaging in sexual relations outside marriage and that the case has been referred to Taliban courts for legal proceedings. It remains unclear whether any of the detainees have admitted to the allegations.
Bayazid Youn previously served as the head of the Complaints Department in the Taliban’s morality ministry in Herat before being appointed to oversee the department’s analysis and review section. He had previously spoken publicly about his office’s handling of criminal, civil and administrative complaints.
According to the same sources, Youn was among the younger officials within the Taliban administration in Herat and entered the department after the Taliban’s return to power with the support of his father. They added that he is originally from Kandahar Province and has published writings in Pashto, Persian and Urdu in support of the Taliban and on Islamic jurisprudence.
Nimruz TV cannot independently verify the claims made by local sources regarding the reported arrest or the allegations against Youn. As of publication, Taliban authorities have not issued an official statement or responded to requests for comment regarding the case.
Given the absence of official confirmation, the reported allegations should be treated as unverified.
