Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s defense minister, has announced that the group is planning to establish a professional defense structure in Afghanistan.
Speaking at an international gathering of senior security officials, Mujahid said the initiative is intended to strengthen Afghanistan’s security and contribute to regional stability.
According to the Taliban defense minister, a professional defense system could provide the foundation for long-term security and play an important role in expanding regional cooperation.
Mujahid also emphasized the direct connection between security and economic development, arguing that sustainable trade and economic growth cannot be achieved without stability.
He said expanding commerce, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity projects could help promote lasting stability both in Afghanistan and across the wider region.
The Taliban defense minister stated that Kabul supports any initiative aimed at bringing regional countries closer together, increasing cooperation, and advancing shared interests.
He further described Afghanistan as a country with significant potential in trade, transit, and investment and called for stronger economic partnerships among regional states.
Mujahid’s remarks come as the Taliban have repeatedly highlighted efforts to build and strengthen new security and military institutions since returning to power.
At the same time, several international organizations and regional governments continue to express concern about Afghanistan’s security environment, the presence of extremist groups, and potential cross-border threats.
