At least 11 civilians have been killed following a shooting by unidentified armed individuals in Herat province, triggering protests and a strike by local businesses.
Sources told Afghanistan International that shopkeepers, including gold traders and other صنوف, shut down their businesses on Saturday in protest against the killing of Shiite civilians.
The attack occurred on Friday afternoon near a recreational area in Injil district, where gunmen opened fire on civilians.
The Taliban’s Interior Ministry confirmed the incident and reported that the death toll had risen to 11.
Local officials said several of the wounded were in critical condition, with at least seven later dying from their injuries in a regional hospital.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the incident has raised fears of targeted violence and growing insecurity.
