Qudratullah Jamal, the Taliban’s deputy minister for tourism, finance, and administration at the Ministry of Information and Culture, has called for professional treatment of foreign tourists and the presentation of what he described as the “real image” of Afghanistan.
Speaking at the conclusion of a three-day training workshop for employees of tourism, pilgrimage, Hajj, Umrah, and medical service unions, Jamal said Afghanistan is an Islamic and hospitable country with extensive historical and natural attractions.
He stated that since recent political changes in Afghanistan, Taliban authorities have taken practical steps aimed at developing the tourism industry and facilitating the work of tourism and pilgrimage companies.
According to Jamal, efforts to standardize tourism-related services and address challenges facing companies in the sector are continuing.
He also said the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture would support legal and professional activities connected to tourism development.
The Taliban have increasingly promoted tourism and regional travel initiatives in recent months as part of broader efforts to improve economic activity and reduce international isolation.
Despite those efforts, Afghanistan continues to face significant international criticism over human rights restrictions, particularly those affecting women and girls since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
