Reuters, citing a US official, reports that President Donald Trump is dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal because it reportedly does not place Tehran’s nuclear program at the center of negotiations from the outset.
According to the report, Trump reviewed the proposal with senior national security advisers.
Iranian sources reportedly say Tehran’s plan would postpone substantive nuclear discussions until after the war ends and maritime disputes in the Gulf are addressed.
Washington, however, insists that Iran’s nuclear program must be a primary issue from the beginning of any negotiation process.
The disagreement underscores a deeper divide not only over policy substance but also over the sequencing and framework of diplomacy.
The emerging gap suggests that while communication channels remain open, major differences over priorities could significantly complicate prospects for a broader agreement.
