The New York Times reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been in regular contact with US President Donald Trump and urged tougher action against Iran.
According to the report, there were also indications before the start of the war that Saudi Arabia supported the idea of US strikes on Iran.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 61 drones in the kingdom’s eastern region between midnight and Monday morning.
Saudi state television had earlier reported that air defense systems shot down 34 drones in eastern Saudi Arabia within a single hour.
Officials have not released further details about the origin of the drones.
