The Afghanistan Freedom Front announced on Monday that its fighters had carried out two separate operations against Taliban positions in the northeastern provinces of Takhar and Badakhshan.
According to the group, at least three Taliban members were killed during an attack on the Taliban police headquarters in Chah Ab district of Takhar. The Freedom Front said the operation began with the launch of several rockets and was followed by an exchange of fire that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
The group also claimed that at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday it launched what it described as a “lightning attack” on the district administration building in Kashm district of Badakhshan. It said information regarding possible Taliban casualties from that operation was not yet available.
The Taliban have not commented on either incident, and the claims made by the Freedom Front have not been independently verified.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front, one of the armed groups opposing Taliban rule, has recently reported an increase in its guerrilla operations against Taliban forces. The group previously claimed responsibility for an attack in Laghman Province that was reportedly followed by a Taliban security meeting.
