The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, has reported that President Donald Trump expressed anger over leaks of classified information related to the war with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the report, Trump urged the US Department of Justice to pursue investigations into unauthorized disclosures more aggressively.
People familiar with the matter said prosecutors in recent months issued subpoenas to media organizations as well as email and phone service providers as part of leak-related investigations.
US officials said Trump was particularly angered by a New York Times article published on April 7.
The report detailed how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allegedly pushed Trump toward bombing Iran.
The New York Times article also revealed details from meetings involving senior US officials, including discussions held inside the White House Situation Room.
The disclosure of such information triggered widespread reactions within US political and security circles.
Analysts say Trump’s sensitivity toward classified leaks reflects broader concerns within Washington about the exposure of military decision-making processes and strategic discussions during a period of heightened regional tensions.
At the same time, increasing legal pressure on media outlets and communications companies has revived debate in the United States over the balance between national security and freedom of the press.
Experts note that wartime leak investigations often extend beyond questions of secrecy alone and become part of broader struggles over narrative control, institutional loyalty, and public accountability during national security crises.
