A local community leader has been shot dead in Jawzjan province, according to local sources, in an incident that has raised fresh concerns about security.
The victim, identified as Ghaibullah Rais, was a prominent Turkmen elder and local businessman based in Sheberghan.
Sources said he was attacked early in the morning after performing prayers in the Pirmazid area of the city.
The assailants, reportedly on motorcycles, opened fire before fleeing the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities have not issued an official statement.
The incident comes days after another deadly attack targeting civilians in Herat province, where multiple people were killed.
Residents have expressed growing concern over what they describe as an increase in insecurity and criminal activity despite official claims of improved security.
Angle Analysis:
The killing reflects a broader pattern of targeted violence against local figures, suggesting gaps in security and rising fear at the community level.
