Local sources have told Nimruz TV that internal tensions within the Taliban in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province have reached an unprecedented level, with efforts by the group’s leadership to resolve the dispute peacefully reportedly failing so far.
According to the sources, various Taliban units, including army and intelligence forces, have been deployed to Badakhshan in recent days. They added that hundreds of special forces have also arrived from Panjshir and other provinces to reinforce Taliban positions.
The sources said Juma Khan, a local Taliban commander who is reportedly at odds with the group’s leadership, has established permanent checkpoints in areas under his control despite previously stating that he would avoid initiating armed clashes.
According to the information received by Nimruz TV, Taliban reinforcements entered Shighnan district before moving toward the Darwaz area, where Juma Khan is reportedly based. The sources also claimed that the Taliban have established several security checkpoints along the route and intensified efforts to disarm local forces.
They further stated that Juma Khan is currently in Nusay district alongside his local fighters.
Local reports also indicate that the large number of deployed personnel and a shortage of accommodation forced some Taliban forces to spend the night inside the central hospital building in Shighnan, occupying parts of the medical facility.
Nimruz TV has not been able to independently verify these claims, and the Taliban have not issued any official response to the reports.
