Pakistan’s military has claimed that the Taliban launched four “rudimentary drones” toward Balochistan Province on Tuesday evening.
In a statement, the Pakistani military said the drones crossed into Balochistan from Afghanistan but were detected and destroyed by Pakistan’s air defense systems before reaching their intended targets.
The military alleged that the incident was part of the Taliban’s support for armed groups that, according to Islamabad, operate from areas under Taliban control inside Afghanistan.
The statement came after the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense announced earlier that it had carried out what it described as airstrikes inside Pakistan, claiming the operation targeted Islamic State fighters and other opponents and had been successful.
Pakistan’s military also accused the Taliban of supporting terrorism and warned that any future “cross-border adventurism or provocations” against Pakistan’s sovereignty would be met with a “swift, decisive and crushing” response under what it called “Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq.”
Islamabad further warned that continued actions of this kind would carry a heavy cost for the Taliban.
The Taliban have not yet issued an official response to the latest statement by Pakistan’s military, and the claims made by both sides have not been independently verified.
