The Guardian, citing a Saudi intelligence source, reports that Saudi Arabia has urged the United States to intensify its attacks against Iran and is considering direct involvement in the conflict.
According to the report, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked US President Donald Trump not to halt military operations, describing the war as a “historic opportunity.”
The source said Riyadh is not only seeking continuation of the campaign but also an escalation in its intensity.
Trump has also suggested that bin Salman is “fighting with us.”
Despite the reports, there has been no confirmed indication of direct Saudi military involvement.
The report also highlights risks to oil shipping routes and the potential for wider escalation involving Iran-aligned groups, including the Houthis.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia and Iran had moved toward restoring diplomatic ties with mediation by China, but current developments could reignite tensions.
