The Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) says Afghanistan’s voting rights have been suspended due to unpaid membership fees.
The decision, announced on March 24, took effect from January 1, 2026, and will remain in place until outstanding dues from 2022 and subsequent years are settled.
Afghanistan joined the organization in 2019, and its membership has continued after the Taliban’s return to power.
Under the decision, Afghanistan remains a member and can attend meetings as an observer, but has lost voting rights and participation in the administrative committee.
The organization warned that if the situation continues for two more years, Afghanistan’s membership could be terminated entirely.
