Young people in Uruzgan province say they have lost their livelihoods following the escalation of clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Many of them previously earned income by transporting goods between Afghanistan and Pakistan, but now report widespread unemployment and lack of opportunities.
They say border closures with Pakistan and restrictions in Iran have cut off their sources of income.
A resident, Mohammad Akhgar, said: “Pakistan has closed its borders to us, and we can no longer go there.”
Another resident, Azizullah, said rising prices have worsened conditions, noting that a sack of flour now costs around 1,500 Afghani.
Women workers are also affected. Qamari Gul said she relies on spinning wool, but the income is not enough to meet her family’s needs.
Uruzgan’s economy heavily depends on cross-border movement, and with routes closed, many families now face serious economic hardship.
