UNESCO: Women Key to Water Access but Underrepresented in Leadership

یونسکو: زنان در تأمین آب نقش کلیدی دارند، اما از مدیریت آن کنار گذاشته شده‌اند

UNESCO says women and girls play a key role in securing water for families and communities worldwide, but remain underrepresented in water management leadership.

Marking World Water Day, the agency called for equal participation of women in managing water resources to achieve inclusive solutions.

In a message on X, UNESCO said water is essential for life, yet inequalities continue to shape access to this vital resource.

March 22 is observed globally as World Water Day to raise awareness about water and sustainable management.

According to UNICEF, nearly one-third of Afghanistan’s population lacks access to safe drinking water.

In many rural areas, women bear the primary responsibility for water collection and related household tasks, a burden experts warn can deepen gender inequality and affect women’s health.
