Joseph Kent, head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has resigned from his position.
Kent said he stepped down in protest against the ongoing war with Iran, arguing that Tehran posed no immediate threat to the United States.
In a resignation letter shared on social media, he wrote that he could not support what he described as an unnecessary and misguided war.
The resignation reportedly surprised US intelligence officials, and neither the White House nor the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has issued an official response.
