French President Emmanuel Macron says a French soldier has been killed in northern Iraq following a drone attack on a military base.
Macron said the soldier “died for France” and added that several other French troops were wounded in the attack.
He described the strike on French forces as “unacceptable,” saying the war in Iran cannot justify such attacks.
French troops are deployed in Iraq as part of international missions to combat terrorism.
