Japan has allocated $2 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to support Afghan returnees.
UNHCR said in a statement on Wednesday that more than 2.8 million people have returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries in 2025 alone.
The agency said many returnees urgently need shelter, food, livelihoods and protection.
UNHCR added that the funding will provide emergency cash assistance to nearly 23,000 returnees so families can meet their immediate needs.
Officials also warned that rising regional tensions could lead to another wave of Afghan returnees.
