US Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler says Washington will no longer tolerate the detention of American citizens by foreign governments.
In a post on X, Boehler said three US citizens are currently being held in Afghanistan and called on the Taliban to release them as soon as possible.
He warned that Afghanistan could face consequences similar to those imposed on countries such as Iran and Venezuela if the situation continues.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has placed Afghanistan on the list of countries involved in wrongful detentions.
