Nobel Peace Prize laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai has called for the systematic exclusion of women and girls in Afghanistan to be recognized as gender apartheid.
Speaking at the opening of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, she urged world leaders to stand with Afghan girls.
Malala also expressed concern over humanitarian crises affecting children and families in several regions, including Iran, Gaza and Afghanistan.
She said the suffering of children caused by war and violence is deeply troubling and stressed that justice should never be applied selectively.
