Iran’s Assembly of Experts says Mojtaba Khamenei has been selected as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
In a statement, the body said the process to choose a new leader began immediately after reports that former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed.
The Assembly said its members held an extraordinary session to decide on Iran’s future leadership despite the ongoing wartime conditions.
It also called on Iranian citizens to pledge allegiance to the new leader and support national unity.
