Local sources reported on Sunday that an armed attack and shooting incident took place inside Kabul’s Shahzada market, the city’s largest currency exchange center.
According to three eyewitnesses who spoke to Afghanistan International, an armed individual carrying a Kalashnikov rifle opened fire on several people inside the market before fleeing the area.
Sources said several people were killed or injured during the attack, although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
One source suggested the incident may have been linked to an armed robbery.
Shahzada market is considered the largest financial and currency trading center in Kabul, where hundreds of people gather daily for money exchange and financial transactions.
Taliban authorities have not yet officially commented on the details of the incident or the number of victims.
The shooting comes amid continuing concerns over security conditions and rising urban crime in Kabul.
